Team Development

In her role as State Manager with the Australian Public Service Commission, Jo Saies was engaged by Centrelink NSW to design and deliver a team development program for a newly amalgamated Area Team.

Phase one of the project involved the development and facilitation of a leadership team workshop in which participants defined and agreed on:

  • A shared purpose
  • The values, behaviours and communication strategies that would support their purpose
  • Work priorities and accountabilities
  • How they would lead their staff in support of the new team

The second phase involved the development and facilitation of a workshop for the whole Area Team of approximately 40 staff. The workshop supported staff through an emotional and psychological transition from being connected with the ‘old’ teams and the structures and customs of the past, to identifying with the ‘new’ team and its future. Practical matters including work allocations, responsibilities and accountabilities, communication channels and strategies for ongoing team development were also agreed.
