Scotch College
Staff Coaching Program
In 2012-13, as part of an extensive initiative at the time to embed a positive psychology ethos within the broader operations of the school, Scotch College engaged PB Performance and Development to develop, deliver and evaluate a staff coaching program to support the personal and professional development of 8 senior staff members across the school.
The goals of the program were to:
- Enhance mental health, wellbeing, and personal resilience of participating staff
- Support participating staff to better understand and apply the principles of positive psychology to their professional development and personal lives
- Encourage thinking around character strengths.
Participants were free to select and work on wellbeing or professional development issues in accordance with the stated program goals. Coaching used a strengths-based, cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused framework, and incorporated broader positive psychology interventions where relevant to the achievement of participant goals. Program evaluation demonstrated the extremely positive impact of the program, and that all participants made significant progress towards the achievement of their personal and professional development goals.
